Walk through Cabbagetown
and discover stately Victorian homes
and quiet narrow lanes with small cottages and lush gardens.
Cabbagetown is a place where people take pride in living,
and pride in friendliness and a bit of eccentricity, (where
else might you find a working farm in the middle of a mega
city, or a wacky kids' play being performed in the
Necropolis chapel?) The Arts thrive in Cabbagetown as is
evident at the large outdoor art show and sale during the
yearly Cabbagetown Festival and the artists displayed at the
"Here & Now Gallery". |

Close
to downtown Toronto, Cabbagetown also offers tranquil walks in
Riverdale Park, the Farm and along the Don River.

Cabbagetown
is
also a place of
restaurants and cafés with fares from
Mexico to New Zealand, France to India. A place of outdoor patios,
on the street or hidden. The friendly pubs and bars
are where locals meet, visitors find new
friends and former Cabbagetowners stop by now and then to touch
base with old friends. "Once a Cabbagetowner always a
Cabbagetowner" is an oft heard phrase.

The Cabbagetown Theatre Company presents The
Saucy Scarecrow from September 5 – 7 at the 2008
Cabbagetown Festival. It's a raucously
entertaining comedy for the whole family,
featuring a scarecrow who's come to life, the
organic farmer who made him so, and three
"bewitching" sisters named Rag, Tag and Bobtail.
The Saucy Scarecrow will be presented at the
Necropolis Chapel, 200 Winchester Street, just
across from Riverdale Farm. Shows are scheduled
for Friday, September 5 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday,
September 6 and Sunday, September 7 at 12 noon,
1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Tickets are
only $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children,
and are available at the door. Shows run 30
minutes.
The show follows the adventures of Boo, a
scarecrow who's come to life in Farmer Atticus'
non-genetically modified cornfield. Awakened by
the attention of three young witches – the
twisted sisters Rag and Tag, and their studious
sibling, Bobtail - Boo joins Bobtail and Atticus
in a series of excellent adventures, as they
attempt to thwart the nasty advances of Rag and
Tag.
The Saucy Scarecrow was written and workshopped
for the stage by director Kim Sprenger,
assistant director Liam Doherty and the Company.
It features the talents of returning Cabbagetown
Festival favourites Basil Tamkei as Boo the
Scarecrow, Wendy Akerboom as Atticus the Farmer
and Kanza Farris, Sofia Stefou and Michelle
Fukes as the Witch Sisters: Rag, Tag and
Bobtail.
